The Laura Goad Turner Match Grant

The Laura Goad Turner Charitable Foundation has issued a challenge to Community Action of Southern KY to raise $250,000, which will be matched dollar for dollar by the Foundation to support the operation of a third Pre-school classroom in the new Allen County facility set to open Summer  2010.

The Laura Goad Turner Charitable Foundation donated the J.L. Turner & Son Warehouse property where the Dollar General Corporation legacy began.  The Foundation committed $1.75 million towards a new 13,600 square foot facility for Community Action’s services in Allen County.  In addition, the Foundation approved additional funding in the form of the challenge grant.  These funds will match contributions towards the Agency’s portion of the expenses above the $1.75 million with support of the operations of a third preschool classroom in the new facility in $50,000 increments annually for five years.

The new handicap accessible building will provide several core services to the individuals and families of Allen County, including Head Start/preschool, Senior Center, meals and Community Services assistance. In addition the facility will include a clothing warehouse where participants can receive gently used clothing at no cost, a small fitness room, billiards room, recreation room and a commercial size kitchen.  The Multipurpose Room and the computer room provide for one-on-one and group work related to job readiness and employment skills.

We are on our way to collecting $250,000! The thermometer on this page shows our current progress toward reaching our goal of $250,000.

There are so many ways to support us with this challenge! Your donation will be doubled through the generosity of the Laura Goad Turner Charitable Foundation, if given by June 30, 2010.
