Laura Anne Turner donated a 27 x 41 one sheet poster from the 1921 movie “A Sailor Made Man” to Community Action. The poster was found along with other posters and movie stills in the walls of the old Crystal Theater in Downtown Scottsville. This is a very rare poster (valued at approximately $6,500) from what was actually Harold Lloyd's first feature film, which grossed $485,000. The success of this film as a feature led Lloyd to abandon making 2-reel shorts. This magnificent and un-restored poster features Lloyd with his leading lady and soon-to-be wife, Mildred Davis. They remained married until her death in 1969.

Cheryl Allen, CEO of Community Action of Southern KY said, “We were so blessed to have the donation of this poster. When we received the verbal appraisal, we immediately began the process to get the poster to auction in order to benefit the Allen County-Scottsville Community. Thanks to the tremendous contributions of the Laura Goad Turner Charitable Foundation and their challenge for us to raise $250,000 to be matched for additional preschool services, the Scottsville community will have a one-stop facility to help all ages become self-reliant. We have collected over $85,000 so far. I encourage everyone to help us meet this challenge grant before June 30, 2010.”

The poster is being auctioned on March 19, 2010 in Heritage Auctions, Inc.’s Signature Movie Poster Auction. The minimum bid is set at $4,500. If you would like to bid on this item, please go to www.ha.comand register as a bidder. The poster is in the Featured Movie Poster Auctions.

Job Development Specialists will work one on one with participants to develop self confidence, fill out job applications, prepare for interviews, build a resume, dress for the interview and discover the skills they possess. The Specialists will help participants to identify and address each participant’s strengths and areas of growth. They will work closely together to identify barriers to employment, and encourage the changes necessary to make employment a reality. This personal training will also provide referrals to address any needs identified that may be outside the employment arena, so that any and all employment barriers can be leveled.
